The Challenge
Woolmarket House is a beautiful six-room boutique B&B set in a historic building from 1780.
While the property’s character adds plenty of charm, it also brings some challenges – like a huge chimney running through the centre of the building and thick Cotswold stone walls that made delivering fast, reliable Wi-Fi a real headache.
Owner Sarah was struggling to provide stable Wi-Fi throughout the building, especially in guest rooms. We paid her a visit to see what was going on.
“From the initial meeting with Managing Director James Banister – who explained everything clearly and got the quote over within days – to the professional installation team, Yappl has been fantastic and on the ball with everything!” – Sarah, Owner
What We Did
Working with an older property meant being extra thoughtful about how and where we installed equipment. Here’s what we did:
- Installed access points in carefully selected locations to make sure the system was discreet, effective, and suited the layout of the building.
- Added a firewall to keep the network protected from viruses and malicious traffic.
- Routed all wired devices through a central switch to create a clean, easy-to-manage network.
And when BT caused a hiccup with the broadband switchover?
“The one problem I experienced was that BT hadn’t switched the line over, but a Yappl engineer came out that same day to sort it. Amazing!” – Sarah
The Results
The B&B now has a fast, secure, and modern setup that just works – without the hassle.
- We can manage their network remotely and spot any issues quickly.
- Fast roaming lets guests move between areas without losing connection.
- Guests get voucher-based Wi-Fi access with optional time limits and the ability to charge for usage.
- The team can create and customise multiple networks depending on their needs.
- Their phone system now connects staff on one internal number, and voicemails land as emails so Sarah can stay on top of things – even when she’s not there.
“The phone system is great – just dial one number and reach the team. And voicemail-to-email means I never miss a thing.” – Sarah
