Fairmount Hotel is a busy, independent hotel located in the heart of Bournemouth.
They pride themselves on offering a welcoming experience for both business and leisure guests. But behind the scenes, their connectivity setup was causing problems.
The Challenge
They were paying for two separate broadband connections – one for staff and one for guests – but still struggling with poor Wi-Fi coverage throughout the building.
The hotel had installed four access points, but these were placed in less-than-ideal locations (including cleaning cupboards), leading to unreliable connections for staff systems and guest devices alike.
What We Did
Here’s how we got things running smoothly:
- We carried out a full-site survey to pinpoint the best spots for new access points, ensuring strong, consistent coverage throughout the hotel.
- Set up two separate networks – one for guests and one for staff – using a single broadband connection, saving them the cost of running two lines.
- Added firewalls to protect both networks from any malicious traffic or viruses.
- Tidied up the office cabling with a 24-port switch so everything is routed neatly through one device.
The Results
A cleaner, smarter network setup that just works:
- We can now manage the whole network remotely and quickly spot any issues.
- Staff and guests enjoy fast, seamless roaming between access points with no dropouts.
- Bandwidth can be controlled per access point, with the option to prioritise staff or guest traffic when needed.
- They can now offer guest Wi-Fi vouchers with custom time limits – ideal for charging or managing usage.
- Multiple, fully customisable networks give them full flexibility moving forward.
